Here’s what to check, and what to send us so we can help quickly.

Using your VELUX remote control to open roof windows and blinds.

If your Velux window is not responding, or you are trying to connect a remote control and it will not pair, this guide will help you take the right next step.

In most cases, we can solve this quickly once we know exactly which remote you have. The key is the data plate on the remote control.

We are Velux Certified Installers, and we support customers with window and control issues as part of that. If you want to understand what that means, you can read more here: https://www.milestonehomes.co.uk/post/velux-certified-installer

If you need help identifying your window first, this guide helps: https://www.milestonehomes.co.uk/post/identify-velux-window

1) Quick checks first (these solve a lot of issues)

Before you assume the remote has failed, run through these:

  • Replace the batteries with new ones (not half-used spares).

  • Stand close to the window and try again.

  • If you have more than one Velux product, make sure you are using the correct remote for that window.

  • If the window is electric, check there is power to the system (a power issue can look like a remote control issue).

If it still will not operate, move on to the next section.

2) Connecting a remote control (what usually works)

Velux control systems differ by product generation, so the exact steps vary. However, most “connection” problems fall into one of these situations:

A) You are replacing a controller and want to transfer settings

If you still have the old controller and it is working, it is often possible to copy or transfer the setup to a new controller (depending on the model). This is usually the fastest option.

B) The remote will not connect at all

If pairing fails repeatedly, it is often due to compatibility (remote type vs window generation), a control unit issue, or the product not being in the correct mode.

In these cases, the fastest route is to identify the remote from the data plate. That tells us what you have, what it should work with, and what the right fix is.

3) How to find the data plate on your Velux remote control

The data plate (sometimes called the type sign) is a small label with the key identification details.

Here’s where to look:

Velux Wall Switch (KLI)

You can find the data plate on the back of the wall switch.

Velux Touch (KLR 300)

You can find the data plate on the back of the Velux Touch.

Velux Control Pad (KLR 200)

You can find the data plate inside the control pad, on the cover of the battery casing.

Velux Single Remote Control

You can find the data plate inside the remote control, on the back cover of the remote.

Velux KLR 100

You can find the data plate inside the remote control, below the battery casing.

If you can, take a photo rather than writing the numbers down. It is quicker, and it avoids errors.

4) What information is on the data plate (and why it matters)

On the remote control data plate you will typically see:

  • Type

  • Size

  • Variant

  • Serial number

The serial number includes production information. This helps us confirm:

  • Which remote control you have

  • Whether it is compatible with your window and system

  • The correct replacement (if one is needed)

  • Whether a visit is required, and which trained person to send

5) Understanding the production month (simple explanation)

On some data plates, the production month is shown as a two-digit number. That number represents the month in the year.

For example, “06” means it was produced in June.

6) What to send us (this is the key step)

To help you quickly, we need one thing:

A clear photo of the remote control data plate.

Please email it to: info@milestonehomes.co.uk

A good photo makes all the difference. Try to get:

  • Close up

  • Good light

  • Text sharp and readable (not blurred)

Once we have that image, we can identify the correct remote, advise on the next step, and if needed arrange the correctly qualified Velux-trained person to attend your property.

If you also need to identify your window

If you are not sure which Velux window you have, use this guide and send us the window type plate too:
