Here is a list of the most common question we get asked about completing a roof lift loft conversions.

What planning permission do I need for a dormer loft conversion?
In some cases you don’t need any planning permission, as it will fall under whatis known as Permitted Development Rights. Note, this is often shortened to PD Rights. (See the planning portal for more information about permitted development rights). However, in these circumstances, we would advise you to still apply for a Lawful Development Certificate (LDC) as this ensures you are fully covered for your development and at the point of sale you have proof it was done within permitted development, which could both add value to your home sale and save you in legal fee’s.
Some dormers however, will require full planning permission. Dormers to the side or front elevation of your roof usually always require planning permission by default.
You also need to ensure you are not in a conservation area. If your home is in a conservation area, you will generally need planning permission for any work that is visible from the exterior of your house regardless if that is at the front, side or rear of the property.

Why would I consider a dormer loft conversion instead?
We will never sell you something you don’t need, as a family run business, that’s not how we work. However, there are many reasons you might want to consider having one or more dormers as part of your loft conversion. Here are just a few reasons you might want to consider having a dormer added to your roof space:

You get a larger percentage increase in usable floor space. This in turn increases the amount of wall space for a wardrobe, and your favourite art pieces.

You might be surprised at how little extra it is to have a dormer. You have already covered the costs of the strengthening, base insulation, staircase and more, so a dormer isn’t a big jump.

With all that extra floor space, you’ll also increase the resale value of your home. Estate agents say a full loft conversion done well can add up to 25% on your home value. Mansard Loft Conversions
A mansard roof loft conversion is classical style, but not used very often today. Popularised during the French Baroque period of the 17th Century, this is often not used in favour of a flat roof dormer due to ease of construction.
Stub Truss Roof Lift Loft Conversion
If you need more space than a roof lift can create on its own, then a stepped or stub truss is the perfect solution, especially for narrow buildings. By lifting the externals walls and the roof overall, you get even more internals space.
L-Shaped Dorm Loft Conversion
When you have two roof lines merging, then an L-shaped loft dormer, can add significant space to your overall roof line. With more internal space you'll be able to add extra rooms, bathrooms or an en-suite.
Fink/Modern Truss Loft Conversion
This is the modern version of the 'Traditional or Velux Loft Conversion'. The biggest difference is there is a lot more elements needing to be removed in order to open up the space. However we a have solution for every modern truss design.
